Merci!!! 😀

Emergency situations in orthodontics

Removable device
If your removable device hurts you, we suggest that you wear it only at night and call us to schedule an appointment.
You can also remove 1 or 2 activation turns in a situation where the pressure is too high.
For a lost device, it will be necessary to communicate with us as quickly as possible in order to schedule an appointment.

A case that takes off or hurts
In a situation where the casing hurts, it is recommended to place a piece of wax or silicone directly on it in order to avoid the appearance of an ulcer.
When a thread is too long and sting, you can also use a piece of wax or silicone or use a nail clipper to remove the excess thread.
If the problem persists, please call our clinic to schedule an appointment.

Ulcer
If ulcers develop, we suggest that you rinse your mouth with water and salt a few times a day.
You can also gargle with 1 teaspoon of liquid Benadryl mixed with 1 teaspoon of Kaopectate for one minute (if you do not have any allergy to this medicine).

Stationary fixture
In the case of an expansion device and the processing is not completed, you are asked not to perform an additional turn until the situation is corrected. Keep the device in your mouth and contact the clinic as soon as possible.

Case taken off
In the first year of treatment, when a case takes off and you do not feel pain, leave the case until the next appointment. Remember that the box is held by the wire and that there is no chance that it will fall unless it is installed on a terminal tooth.

Other problems in orthodontics

Pain
When installing the housings (or pins), no pain is felt. Teeth will become sensitive about 2 hours after treatment. This pain may be present for 3 to 7 days depending on the patient and the type of treatment. To relieve pain, it is recommended to take an analgesic drug of the type “Tylenol” (be careful not to take an anti-inflammatory type Advil).
For two weeks, it is possible that the tongue and lips are irritated. After this time, we will completely forget that a device is installed in the mouth.

Mobility of teeth
It is quite normal that during the treatment, the teeth are mobile. Do not worry about this situation. The teeth must be slightly movable to make the desired movements. The teeth will become fixed once treatment is completed.

Post-operative care after a transplant

Periodontal intervention

Mouth care / brushing and dental silk
Start by brushing and flossing in areas that have not had surgery.
AVOID SITES WHICH HAVE BEEN SURVIVALED until you are allowed to do so during the postoperative visit. There may be a whitish film over the surgical site. This is completely normal.

Rinse mouth
Use a prescribed mouthwash 2 times a day starting the day after the procedure until you are told to stop using it.

Electric toothbrush
DO NOT use an electric toothbrush such as Sonicare or Oral-B for 6 weeks after the procedure.

Water pik
DO NOT use a water pik for at least 6 weeks after your procedure.

Avant / après un traitement - Greffe - CDBPA

Food

After 24 hours following the intervention
Progress gradually with soft foods that are easy to chew such as :

  • Cooked vegetables;
  • Cooked fish;
  • Pasta;
  • Meatloaf.

Do not skip meal
If you eat regularly, you will feel better, gain strength, have less discomfort and heal faster.

Activity / rest
Plan to stay home the rest of the day of the intervention and the next day. When you sleep, raise your head to reduce swelling. SLEEP IN SEMI-ASSISTED POSITION.
AFTER 24 HOURS, you can return to your regular schedule, but avoid overwork and any physical activity for one to three weeks following the procedure.

Avant / après un traitement - Alimentation - CDBPA

Medication

Pain killer
Take the medication within one hour after treatment with fruit juice or a large glass of water.
NEVER TAKE MEDICATION EMPTY STOMACH
Take the prescribed medication as recommended by your dentist.

Antibiotic
Take your medication as directed until the end of your prescription.

Swelling
It is normal to have swelling following periodontal intervention. To minimize it, we suggest using ICE PACKS. Place them on your cheek alternately 10 minutes (10 minutes with the ice pack, 10 minutes without) Continue to apply as much as possible for the first 24 hours after the procedure. The swelling reaches its maximum between 48 hours and 72 hours.

Bleeding
Light bleeding is normal during the first few days after surgery. If excessive bleeding occurs, please call us.

Smoking
DO NOT SMOKE for a period of 3 weeks following the procedure. Smoking slows tissue healing and will affect the results of the procedure.

Suture
The stitches are non-absorbable and should be removed at the control visit within 8 weeks of your intervention. It is possible that your points fall before your control visit, there is nothing worrying. Our dearest wish is that you are as comfortable as possible after your intervention. It is important to highlight any questions or changes at 450 635-5151.

Rinse your mouth three times a day with warm water and salt (2 ml or 1/2 teaspoon salt in 250 ml or 1 cup of water) the day after surgery until you heal complete.
It is possible that bruises appear on your skin. These will gradually disappear after five to seven days.
It is also likely that you have trouble opening your mouth. The discomfort will subside between four and five days.
If the pain intensifies after three days, do not hesitate to call us at 450 635-5151.
You will feel better after a few days and can resume your usual activities. If you experience pain, heavy bleeding, swelling for 2-3 days or a reaction to the prescribed medication, please contact us without delay at 450 635-5151.

  • Eat before stopping bleeding.
  • Drink with a straw.
  • Rinse mouth or spit.
  • Smoking or consuming alcohol.

After the installation of a crown or bridge

To help you heal, we recommend that you follow the steps outlined below. Please note, however, that it is normal to feel some discomfort after surgery and to have your face swollen.

The installation of bridges / crowns is done in two appointments. During the first visit, we take the fingerprints of the teeth to replace. Then, we proceed to the laying of temporary crowns or bridges to protect your dentition before the replacement teeth are ready.

Day of treatment
Take the prescribed medication as needed.

To avoid

  • Consume hot liquids while under anesthesia.
  • Eat sticky or hard foods (chewing gum, sweets).

Food
Chew on the opposite side.

From the next day to complete healing
Brush your teeth normally, flossing carefully to avoid dropping the temporary crown.
In case of temporary loss of crown, we invite you to immediately go to the clinic to pick it up again. If you delay too much, the installation of the new crown may be more laborious and other teeth may begin to migrate to the free location.
In case of pain or for any question, please call us at 450 635-5151.

Lollipop

It is normal for a baby to suck. This is how he relaxes and feeds. The closer your child is when they are 2 or 3 years old, the less they need to suck. If this is not the case, the use of a pacifier is recommended rather than thumb sucking.

Why? Because YOU can control when and how your child uses a lollipop, but not his thumb. Never put sugar, honey or corn syrup on a lollipop. This may cause cavities. It is best if your child stops sucking BEFORE 3 years old. If a child continues to suck his thumb or lollipop AFTER his permanent teeth have appeared, the growth of his jaw and the position of his teeth could be affected.

Obturate a primary tooth

Why to close a primary tooth to fall?

Broken and infected teeth can affect your child’s health and self-esteem.

A shutter can be an easy and economical way to remedy a problem that, if left alone, could hurt and be expensive.

It can prevent cavities from further digging the tooth.

If no plugging is performed and the decay extends, it may be necessary to extract the tooth.

In the case of an extraction, your child may need a space maintainer that gives the permanent tooth room to push. Indeed, when a primary tooth (milk) is missing, the teeth around it may take its place and thus prevent the permanent tooth from pushing. To maintain space, your dentist can place a plastic or metal space maintainer on adjacent teeth to keep them from moving.

        History

Each dental center has its history.

        1992

In 1992, Dr. Nathalie Bélanger moved to the Monchamp shopping center in St-Constant. The dental clinic quickly enjoys great visibility thanks to a Mickey Mouse mural that catches the eyes of children and parents. Because of her strong interest in developing her knowledge and continuously improving her techniques, Dr. Bélanger acquires many skills in dento-facial orthopedics and orthodontics. Yves Samson, a denturologist, then comes to offer his services for the fabrication of removable or fixed dental prostheses on implants.

        1995

With the advent of advanced technology, the deepening of general treatments and new surgical techniques, Dr. Paré and Dr. Bélanger continue to pursue their training in different dental schools in Quebec and the United States.
In 1998, they acquired one of the first CEREC 2 machines in the province.

        2003

In 2003, the need to expand the premises is increasingly felt since the clinic now has three dentists and only four operating rooms. Centre Dentaire Bélanger Paré et associés decided to build a new clinic at the corner of Monchamp and Sainte-Catherine Streets, still in St-Constant, to accommodate a larger team, which now has 5 dentists and several hygienists. This new reality will provide a more flexible schedule and a variety of services and care.

        2005
